Orchard with Roses 1911 circa Gustav Klimt Gustav Klimt (1862 - 1918) was an Austrian symbolist painter 오스트리아의 화가로 유겐트슈틸의 대표적 화가. 빈근교 바움가르텐에서 출생, 빈에서 사망. 빈 공예학교에서 배움. 마카 르트의 아카데믹한 상징적 역사화의 영향을 받았다. 초기에는 동생 에른스트(Ernst, 1864~1892), 동창 마슈 (Franz Matsch, 1861~1942)와 공동 제작. 1890년 빈 미술가 협회에 가입. 90년대 전반부터 이집트의 벽화, 그리스 도기 화, 중세의 금지(金地)의 판그림(板繪), 비잔틴의 모자이크등 의 제요소를 세기말적 분위기 표출을 위한 형식 언어로 이 용하여, 윤곽선을 강조한 얼굴이나 지체의 고전적 표현과, 의 복의 모자이크 풍의 평면적 장식성과 결부된 독자적인, 고 혹적인 양식을 창조했다. 1897년 빈 미술가 협회를 탈퇴, 동료와 빈 제체션을 창립 하여 초대 대표자가 되었다. 1904년 〈빈 공방〉의 설립 다음 해에 요제프 호프만의 의뢰를 받아 브뤼셀의 스톡크레 저 택 식당에 모자이크의 프리즈(frieze)를 제작(밑그림, 1905~09) 1907년 이후 시레와 친교를 맺음. 그외의 대표작으로 유디트 (1901), 아데레 브로흐 바우어의 초상 (1907), 입맞춤(1907~1908, 빈 국립 오스트리아 미술관) 등. 또한 점묘풍의 풍경화나 나부(裸婦)의 소묘도 알려져 있다.
